The HK Prize 2024

Winners of hk prize are recognized for their remarkable contributions in scientific research and development. They are rewarded for their outstanding achievements in scientific and technological innovation and transformation as well as the social or economic benefits created. The winners will also be given an opportunity to participate in HKGNA Masterclasses and perform at HKGNA upcoming concert events. Honorable mention certificates will be awarded to selected applicants who don’t pass the semi-final, but have demonstrated great promise and potential.

The 2024 awards ceremony took place on May 17, with Pakistani artist Sameen Agha winning the Grand Prize for her sculpture A Home Is a Terrible Place to Love. The award, presented by Vogue Hong Kong, is the first time a female artist has received the prize.

Fencing champion Vivian Kong and swimmer Siobhan Haughey have both won a share of the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Award Scheme prize money, with Kong getting HK$9 million and Haughey taking home HK$3.6 million.

The prize is open to enrolled secondary school students. Participants are required to be nominated by their teachers and submit their entries online by the submission deadline. The shortlist will be selected by a panel of judges and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony. HK$20,000 will be awarded to the student artist’s school.

Applicants must submit an original full article and a blinded abstract of not more than 500 words in either English or Chinese by the submission deadline of 31 August 2024. Applicants should also include a clear statement of how their work fits the criteria of the prize.

A panel of experts will select the best articles in each category. The winning articles will be published in a book to be released in 2025. The book will highlight the achievements of this year’s HK Prize Winners and provide a valuable resource for researchers, scholars and students to further explore the impact of their research discoveries on society.

Each year, a special issue of the Hong Kong Review magazine is published in partnership with the University of Hong Kong and carries articles by the HK Prize Winners and the judges of this competition. The articles are written by local academics and experts in a range of fields, and they discuss the importance of science and technology in Hong Kong’s future development.

BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is a merit-based non-governmental award hosted by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation and sponsored by BOCHK Limited. The Board is the highest decision-making body of the Award, and it is responsible for interpreting and enforcing the articles of this Charter; suggesting important scientific research fields for THE PRIZE; setting requirements for nomination of experts; and verifying and approving the final review results.

The Board consists of the Review Committee, Compliance Oversight Team, and Secretariat, operated by the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre. The Committees and Secretariat are all staffed by professionals in law, finance, auditing, public affairs and education.
