The Launching of the HK Prize

The hk prize was launched to recognise the contributions of people from different sectors and fields in Hong Kong. The Prize honours the work of these individuals and organisations in helping the city thrive as a global hub for innovation and development. The Prize also seeks to inspire others to use their own talents and resources to create a better world. The hk prize will be awarded at an event in December.

The prize was established in memory of George B. Endacott, Lecturer (1946-57) and Senior Lecturer (1957-62) in History, who was responsible, virtually single-handedly, for re-establishing the Department of History as one of the principal teaching and research units in the Faculty of Arts during the 1950s. The prize is designed to encourage young scholars of East Asia (defined as ‘Eastern Asia’ or ‘South-East Asia’) to engage in research on planning history and to publish their findings in English by themselves. It is also meant to promote the study of Hong Kong history in East Asian countries.

It was a day of pomp and ceremony as the winners of the 2023 BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize were honoured at the award ceremony today (15 December). The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited.

Mr Paul Mo-po CHAN, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, said the prize has acknowledged the motivation and enthusiasm of Hong Kong’s scientific and technological talents to participate in the innovation and technology industry. He added that, with the strong support and trust from the Mainland and the HKSAR Government’s philosophy of a capable government and efficient market, Hong Kong has a good environment for basic scientific research.

HKPAE’s research programme focuses on various aspects of Hong Kong’s past and present and aims to advance understanding of the social, political, economic and cultural issues of Hong Kong. It also aims to promote academic dialogue and cooperation between researchers and students of Hong Kong, as well as encourage the development of new theories, concepts and methods for studying Hong Kong history, politics, society and culture.

The Prize is designed to promote and reward the excellence in research by young Fellows of the Academy, especially in the areas of clinical practice and research-related subjects. It is open to all Fellows with a research paper published in peer-reviewed journals, with the earliest publication date not earlier than 1 January 2023.

The judges’ prize of HK$8,000 and the public vote prize of HK$10,000 are awarded to the two student artists with the highest score from our panel of judges and the most votes from the general public respectively. HK$20,000 is also awarded to the school of the public vote winner. The winners were presented with their awards by Mr. Li Hang, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Post. The judging panel included experts from the academia, private and professional sectors, and local media. The judges’ scores and ratings were based on their research work, presentation and communication skills.
