Hong Kong film stars and directors are among those to be honoured at the Hongkong International Film Awards this year. The event is held annually and recognises excellence in film-making. Previous winners have included action hero Jet Li for his role in HK-China coproduction The Forbidden Kingdom and newcomer Jessie Li for her performance in police thriller Port of Call. The winner of the award will receive a trophy and a cash prize of HK$10,000, as well as access to Hongkong research facilities. The winner is chosen by the public via a vote, and will be announced at the awards ceremony in June.
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is a major initiative of the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation (HKATO), and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. The Prize champions the mission of Boosting Hong Kong, Serving the Country through Science. By enhancing the scientific research atmosphere in Hong Kong, the Prize attracts world-leading scientists to the city, nurtures forward-looking scientists, and contributes to building Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub.
Among the shortlisted candidates for this year’s BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize, there were many from HKUST. The University’s researchers were represented across all areas of the Prize’s scope, with strong representation in artificial intelligence, life and health, new materials and energy and advanced manufacturing.
As with all other BOCHK Prize categories, the winning entries will be judged by a team of expert judges. These will include representatives from the Mainland and the sponsoring enterprise, and academicians from renowned universities around the world. The review process will be conducted on an independent and objective basis, taking into account the research impact of each submission, its potential for future transformation into social or economic value, as well as the influence of the findings on the research community in Hong Kong and beyond.
All articles published in HKJO during the year are eligible, including prospective and retrospective clinical studies, observational studies, epidemiological studies, basic science studies, meta-analysis and systematic reviews. Submissions pending acceptance, letter to the editor and review articles are not eligible for the Prize.
In addition to the prize money, the winners will be offered opportunities for further career development through participating in workshops and seminars aimed at strengthening their research capabilities and leadership skills. They will also be given the chance to exhibit their research at the upcoming ICAS conference, which brings together global scholars and practitioners in the fields of Asia study. The prestigious event is supported by the Society for Hong Kong Studies, and will be held in Brisbane from 9 to 13 April 2023. The winners of the prize will be presented with a certificate and a cheque at the awards ceremony. The full terms and conditions can be found here.
